Spencer Elementary Key Projects
Secure Vestibule & Lockout System

A secure vestibule provides an important layer of protection by ensuring all visitors enter through a controlled, monitored entrance before gaining access to the school. Unlike the current layout, a properly designed secure vestibule allows staff to screen and assist visitors without direct access to students or learning spaces. A secure lockout system further enhances safety by allowing staff to quickly secure the entrance and control access during emergencies. Together, these improvements create a safer environment for students, staff, and visitors.
New Gymnasium

Spencer's shared cafeteria and gym create ongoing challenges for students and staff. The aging partition wall requires frequent repairs, and the combined space limits the effectiveness of physical education. Building a dedicated gymnasium would provide students with a safe, reliable space for physical activity while allowing the existing gym to be converted into much-needed classroom space. Because gymnasium construction is significantly less expensive than building new classroom space, this approach addresses two facility needs in a more cost-effective way.
Additional Classroom Space

Today's students have a wide range of academic, social, and emotional needs, and our schools need spaces that can support them. Creating additional classroom space will help reduce class sizes, provide dedicated areas for support staff to work with students, and include sensory rooms where students can safely regulate emotions and refocus when needed. These improvements will give students the space and support they need to learn, grow, and be successful every day.
Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing

Many of the school's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems—including boilers, chillers, and other critical equipment—are aging and nearing the end of their useful life. Replacing these essential systems will improve reliability, increase energy efficiency, reduce costly emergency repairs, and help ensure students and staff have a safe, comfortable, and well-functioning learning environment for years to come.
Expanded Drive Loop/Parking

Expanding the parking area and bus drive loop will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion during student arrival and dismissal. Separating bus and passenger vehicle traffic minimizes potential conflicts, enhances pedestrian safety, and provides safer, more efficient access for students, staff, and visitors while improving emergency vehicle access when needed.
